My Journey
From a young age, I developed a passion for sewing and crafting. Growing up in Feilding, I dabbled in sewing at school and even created my own ball dress. The thrill of the School Wearable Art Competitions fueled my creative spirit, and I was fortunate enough to win several awards.
After completing my school education, I embarked on a year-long study of Photography, Animation, and Video. Following that, I pursued a Diploma in Interior Design. It was during my Interior Design studies in 2009 that I established my own craft business, eejay Design. This venture lasted for a remarkable 13 years.
In 2013, I landed my first professional job as a Seamstress in Palmerston North. It was here that I discovered my true passion for sewing bridal and formal wear. In a short period, I was promoted to Assistant Manager, and within six months, I advanced to the position of Manager. Following a fulfilling 18-month tenure as Manager, I made the decision to embark on a new chapter of my life. Thus, at the end of 2016, I relocated to the enchanting Kapiti Coast, seeking fresh opportunities and experiences.
Since then, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with a few local sewing and alterations businesses in Kapiti. However, it became apparent to me that bridal alterations demanded a distinct expertise that was scarce in the industry.
I held a cherished dream of launching an alterations business exclusively tailored for brides, aiming to provide them with a tranquil and stress-free experience in a private setting. My vision was to create a dedicated space where brides could feel at ease and have their alterations handled with utmost care and expertise.
In 2017, I tied the knot myself right here in Peka Peka. Although my partner and I had been together for nine years, we planned our wedding in just three months. It was an incredible whirlwind, and while I couldn't create my own dress in such a short timeframe, I managed to modify an existing one to suit me perfectly.
Towards the end of 2018, I embraced motherhood and welcomed a beautiful little girl into my life.
In 2020, my business dream finally became a reality. Unfortunately, a few months later, the world was hit by the Covid pandemic. However, we persevered and made it through the challenging times. Today, I find myself busier than ever, grateful for the trust brides place in me to alter their gowns. It brings me immense joy to see brides traveling across the region to seek my services.
